Blessings! …..We hope this message finds you in good health and that you are enjoying the summer months.

We are suffering the loss of many dear friends, and we are reminded that we must carry on in their memory...

We feel blessed to have been very busy with many stimulating projects these past few months...

My interactions with the wonderful students and staff at the University of Miami Frost School of Music have officially begun. We continue to look for the best ways for me to share my experiences with the tremendous young talent resident at the Frost School of Music. I am especially excited about the upcoming concert with the Frost Concert Jazz Band on October 22, 2015 at UM Gusman concert hall. Many thanks to Shelly Berg, John Daversa  and the team.

I continue to work on a trilogy of musical pieces entitled "Pasos". The first movement of the eventual trilogy was completed late 2013 and performed  at Carnegie Hall. The 8-part manuscript of this installment is available for free download here. I am nearing completion of part 2. This will eventually be performed with students of the Frost School of Music . We will keep you posted.

For the last 20 to 25 months I have been "recomposing" an orchestral piece I wrote back in 1987 as my thesis in connection with my licensure in composition entitled "Embele Iruke" and I am extremely excited about the  prospects of recording and performing this work in the near future. This piece could be considered a classical work, but will include elements of many movements, Cuban Folkloric music and rhythms combined with European Classical and Jazz sensibilities.

"Suite Caminos" has been released on iTunes and should be ready in CD format shortly. I am very happy with the results, and once again we are blessed by the presence of many superb talents including Ernesto Simpson, Matt BrewerSeamus BlakeAlex SipiaginPedrito Martinez , Adam Rogers, Will Vinson and as a very special guest on one selection….none other than Mr. John McLaughlin.

We are anticipating the release of Seamus Blake's album for 5Passion. Check out the wonderful video of a tune entitled "Sofa Song" (link below) and more information can be found  here

We are presently mixing a tribute album to my dear friend Charlie Haden who passed away in 2014. It should be available late 2015. Check out the links below.  We will miss him dearly.

Will Vinson has recording an album for 5Passion and we are presently editing and mixing away. This too will be a great addition to the 5Passion catalog and we are very pleased...

In December of 2012, Matt Brewer, Marcus Gilmore and I came together at the 5Passion studio for rehearsals.  These rehearsals were recorded and upon later listenings we decided that the music was too good to keep locked away. We are within a few months of dropping a double disc of the rehearsals. The tentative title is "Dress Rehearsals".

A video entitled " The Making of XXI Century" was finally released to the YOUTUBE world and will soon be available on Blu-ray in high definition. Watch it below commercial free...

We would like to thank Mayo Garcia, Allan Tucker, Jim Anderson for their artistry in editing recording and mastering our albums.

I recently participated in a 3-Piano concert with Chucho Valdez and Michel Camilo in San Francisco celebrating the music of Ernesto Lecuona. I thank these gentlemen for their artistry and for inviting me to partake in the festivities. A special thanks to San Francisco, a truly cosmopolitan town.

"Volcan" is entering the planning stages for Volcan II , and is planning to record in late 2015. Volcan is touring now....

We, in co-operation with Around Jazz (under the direction of Mr Enrico Iubatti) , have the honor of announcing that in 2015, we will have the pleasure of working with Palast Promotion. Under the direction of Michael Stein and his assistance Sophia Kordt, Palast Promotion will handle booking for Gonzalo Rubalcaba projects. Please anticipate communication from Enrico, Michael and Sophia as we move forward .

Lot’s of other great things developing, all for which I’m humbled and thankful. As always, thank you for your support.

By sharing something, we reaffirm that we are not alone, and that we all share some of the same preoccupations, the same ideas, the same ideals, and the same quest for meaning for our lives. For as long as I can remember, I have had a passionate love for music that drives me to this very day. I hope to …

At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us.
